The language of God has changed over the years and is on a downward spiral. Words that used to mean one thing now mean something else. One common example is the very popular word ‘Blessed.’
It no longer means what it used to once upon a time.
Before the word was linked to humility but in today’s world it is greatly connected to pride. The word has now become a trending hashtag within our culture that is driven by social media.
Blessings are immaterial and spiritual but today we are driven to believe that they are just things we receive.
Jonathan Merritt talks about this and other words that have lost their meaning in his new book ‘Learning to Speak God from Scratch.’
The words that were once sacred are now exploited as they are being mishandled or misused which can damage people’s lives.
I enjoyed this book from cover to cover. It speaks the truth about us as a society that is losing our language of faith. Our words need reviving. Be sure to pick up a copy of this book. You won’t regret it.
It’s time for us to find our voices again and avoid adding hashtags to our virtues.
PS: I received this book free from the publisher. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review.
